The high point of Brinklow is quite literally the remains of a Norman Motte and Bailey Castle, known locally as the Tump. It is a man-made mound, predating the Roman’s presence. The Tump is now under the protection of English Heritage, and what remains is an impressive mixture of moats and high protective mounts, culminating in the hill.
The area had become overgrown, but the clearance and promotion of this wonderfully atmospheric area is a current and on-going project for the Parish Council.
This page will be updated with more information on the Tump when it becomes available.
